Emergency Funds

When crisis hits, our members are not alone. Emergency applications are reviewed and prioritized for immediate processing, with a follow-up within 90 days to make sure you’ve found stable ground.

Natural disasters $1,000per incident

Evacuation, temporary housing, essential supplies, and repairs caused by floods, wildfires, or storms.

Death of an immediate family member $500per incident

Support for funeral expenses, travel costs, and related needs during a loss.

Serious injury or hospital care $500per incident

Costs not covered by other health plans — hospital stays, prescriptions, or specialized medical equipment.

Permanent disabilities $500one-time

Accessibility-related needs such as wheelchair ramps, mobility aids, or home modifications.

Loss of home due to eviction $1,000every two years

Case-by-case assistance with temporary housing, moving costs, and legal fees if necessary.

  • One-time support every two years — not eligible again the following year
  • Applicants complete the free McGill Personal Finance Essentials course to build financial planning skills; the Liaison provides the link. Further emergency support may be paused until it’s complete.

Document the crisis

Eviction notice, medical report, or disaster-related evidence — plus proof of your off-reserve address.

Prioritized review

Emergency applications jump the queue and are processed as quickly as possible.

Direct assistance + follow-up

Funds go directly to landlords, medical providers, or contractors (or to your account when needed). We follow up within 90 days.
