The application guide

How to apply, start to finish

Everything you need to know before you apply — how applications are submitted, who approves them, how priority works, and every deadline that matters.

The process

From application to payment

Register & get your account

Register as a member with your treaty/status number, proof of off-reserve address, and email. Check the general eligibility requirements first. Once the Liaison approves your registration, your member portal account invitation arrives by email.

Apply in the online portal

Sign in to the member portal — it shows exactly which supports you're eligible for and what's left on each. Pick a support, enter the amount, and upload your documents right there (your personal document checklist is built in). Minors’ applications are completed by the parent/guardian’s account. Applications are not accepted by text message or social media. Can’t get online? The Liaison will take your application by email and complete it with you.

Review & payment

Applications are reviewed first-come, first-served. Approved applications are processed within 1–7 business days — payments go to providers directly, or to you as reimbursement with receipts.

⚠️
Incomplete applications are the #1 cause of delays. Missing documents will delay or reject an application — the portal shows your category’s document checklist and won’t let anything slip through, or ask the Liaison to review it with you.
Approvals

Who approves what

Off-Reserve Liaison

Reviews every application and approves requests under $999 (except housing), then forwards them to Band Administration for payment. The Liaison also helps applicants complete forms and answers questions.

Off-Reserve Committee

Approves applications of $1,000 or more, all housing support, and anything flagged for additional review. The Committee meets monthly and manages the program budget.

Priority & deadlines

How applications are prioritized

1. First come, first served

Applications are processed in the order received — the earlier you apply, the sooner your review. Emergencies are always prioritized.

2. New applicants first

If funds become limited, first-time applicants and members who didn’t receive support last fiscal year move ahead of returning applicants.

3. One support type per year

Already received a support this fiscal year? You can’t receive the same type again until the next cycle, and repeat requests are processed after new applications.

DeadlineDetail
Application windowApril 30 to March 15 of the program year — or until funds are fully utilized
Housing applicationsDue by the 10th of each month, reviewed and approved by the 15th
Emergency FundsOpen all year, prioritized on receipt
Final deadlineMarch 15 (or earlier if funds are exhausted)

Dates reflect the current program-year policy and are updated annually.

🧭
Recently moved off-reserve? Most supports require six months of off-reserve residency first. The wait doesn’t apply if you relocated for school, work, or medical reasons — or to the Housing category.
